General description

Interleukin 13 (IL-13) is secreted by a number of cells including T helper cells, CD4 cells and a various white blood cells and is thought to be a mediator of allergic inflammation in many tissues via the induction of IgE synthesis by B cells. Although primarily associated with the induction of airway disease, IL-13 has also been shown to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines by monocytes and macrophages suggesting it has important anti-inflammatory properties.
The SMC® Human IL-13 High Sensitivity Immunoassay Kit contains all reagents required to perform the assay. This assay takes advantage of a standard immunoassay workflow configured in a standard plate format. Assay protocols are similar to existing sandwich ELISA methods with two key differences: 1) Elution buffer disrupts the sandwich, separating the labeled detection antibody for quantification. 2) The Erenna and SMCxPRO immunoassay systems detect analytes using Single Molecule Counting (SMC) technology.

Specificity

Although IL-13 was detectable in non-human primate, rat, canine, and guinea pig samples, the assay has not been validated for these species.

Immune Response

Autoimmune disease
The sensitivity of the Single Molecule Counting (SMC®) technology gives the SMC Human IL-13 High Sensitivity Immunoassay Kit unparalleled performance in the quantification of IL-13 in human serum and plasma.
This new streamline kit has been improved with the following features while the kit performance is consistent with the legacy IL-13 v2 kit, #03-0109-02:
• Improved options for sample prep and incubation
• Lyophilization of the standard provides the kit at one storage condition
• Overnight incubation can be used
• Increased reagent volumes to accommodate automation
• Validated to run on both SMCxPRO® and Erenna
