General description

A conducting polymer such as poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(styrene sulfonate) anions (PEDOT/PSS) is widely used in various organic optoelectronic devices.[1][2][3] PEDOT: PSS is a blend of cationic polythiopene derivative, doped with a polyanion. High electrical conductivity and good oxidation resistance of such polymers make it suitable for electromagnetic shielding and noise suppression. Thus, the polymer film was found to possess high transparency throughout the visible light spectrum and even into near IR and near UV regions, virtually 100% absorption from 900-2,000 nm. No absorption maximum from 400-800 nm. Impact of small electric and magnetic fields on the polymer was studied. [4]
Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) is a conductive polymer (CP) that is formed by electropolymerizing 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene in a solution of poly(styrenesulfonate) (PSS). PEDOT is doped with positive ions and PSS with negative ions. It is a low cost CP that is produced with physical appearance (for example dispersible pellets). The following are the properties that make PEDOT:PSS a viable polymer in organic electronics[5][6]:
  • good optical properties
  • high conductivity
  • functionalization of nanomaterials
  • high thermal stability
  • easy processing

Application

Orgacon DRY is specifically useful for water sensitive formulations containing UV curable monomer (suitable with small amount of water) and pre-polymer based formulations.

Orgacon DRY pellets can be re-dispersed in organic solvents such as ethanol. The resulting dispersion can be used in coating - or ink - formulations targeted for different applications.

Allow retention of PEDOT/PSS key properties in polar organic solvents; such as Ethanol; Surface Resistance: 200~450 Ohm/square; Visual Light Transmission: ~85%
PEDOT:PSS can be used as a conductive material with a high mobility for charge carriers. It can be used for a wide range of energy based applications such as organic printable electronics, textile electronics, electrochemical storage and supercapacitors, and lithium ion batteries.[7][8][9][10]
Virtually 100% absorption from 900-2,000 nm. No absorption maximum from 400-800 nm. Conductive polymer blend.

Physical properties

  • Active chemical PEDOT/PSS

Questions

1–6 of 6 Questions
  1. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

      Helpful?

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. ratio of pedot and pss?

    1 answer
    1. The ratio of PEDOT:PSS is proprietary. The only information which can be shared is that the weight percent of PEDOT:PSS is 0.8%.

  4. For product 768618, Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate), what is additional product information including solubility?

    1 answer
    1. Product 768618, Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate (Orgacon DRY) is not a formulation or dispersion. It consists of dry PEDOT:PSS powder/pellets (lyophilized). Because PSS (poly(styrenesulfonate) is hygroscopic, the pellets will always contain some residual water. These pellets can be redispersed in organic solvents. Orgacon DRY is not soluble in chloroform or chlorobenzene.

  5. What can you tell me regarding the method of preparation of the PEDOT/PSS products, such as Products 768618 and 739316?

    1 answer
    1. The information on the molecular weights of the PEDOT and PSS used to make each batch is held as proprietary. The exact information on the relative amounts (by weight) of the PEDOT and PSS present in these polymers is also held as proprietary. There is a little more PSS than PEDOT; this is logical, since the formula weight for the monomeric equivalent in PSS (C7H6SO3) is a little higher than the formula weight for the monomeric equivalent in PEDOT (C6H4SO2).The solution, product 739316 is made in situ; it is not made from the dry pellets (product 768618).

  6. What is the Department of Transportation shipping information for this product?

    1 answer
    1. Transportation information can be found in Section 14 of the product's (M)SDS.To access the shipping information for this material, use the link on the product detail page for the product.
