  2. I need to replace the frit in my 1/4 inch OD Column Blank Kit (4.6mm ID), Product 59101.  Which frit should be purchased?

    1. The Empty Column Blank (Product No. 59101) requires a frit for a ¼ in. column, which comes in pore sizes of 0.5μm and 2μm.  The product numbers are 59038 and 58264, respectively.  We generally recommend the 0.5μm frits for particle sizes less than 5μm, and the 2μm for larger particle sized packings.

  3. What is the pressure rating for 59101 Column Blank Kit for HPLC?

    1. Under its intended use, the standard 15cm x 4.6mm HPLC column blank should go no higher than 5,000 psi.

  4. I need extra fittings for my 1/4 inch OD Column Blank Kit (4.6mm ID), Product 59101.  Which fitting should be purchased?

    1. The Empty Column Blank (Product No. 59101) comes with two size fittings: one that is a part of the column and one that connects 1/16 in. tubing to the column.  The column inlet/outlet fitting is a reducing union from 1/4 in.-1/16 in., Product No. Z226564.  The nuts/ferrule combination used to connect 1/16 in. tubing to the inlet and outlet of the column is a 10-32 Valco fitting. The product number for a pack of 10 nuts is 22990-U, and for the matching ferrules, Product No. 22988.

  6. How do I clean the HPLC Column Blank, Product No. 59101, after use?

    1. First, check the instrument or pump manual to make sure the system can be used with a solution of 6-10% nitric acid.  Once all packing has been carefully removed from the column and disposed of properly, flush the column with hot HPLC grade or distilled water to remove residual packing or salts that may have precipitated during use.  Then passivate the column with a solution of 6-10% nitric acid at a flow rate of approximately 4-5 mL per minute.  Flush thoroughly with HPLC grade or distilled water, then methanol.
