Opis ogólny

The SOD2 (superoxide dismutase 2) gene is mapped to human chromosome 6q25.3. The encoded protein functions as a tetramer and is localized to mitochondria.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acid residues 183-199 of human superoxide dismutase (MnSOD), conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence is conserved in many eukaryotes.

Superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2) is an antioxidant enzyme and catalyzes the conversion of superoxide to hydrogen peroxide and molecular oxygen. The gene is associated with the metastasis and invasion process of salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma. Manganese SOD is involved in detoxification.
