Other suggestions include soaking in xylene or using methanol or a combination of methanol and acid. Once destained, the staining observed may not be optimal, and for best results, freshly prepared slides typically show the best color contrast.

Application
When blood films are stained using Giemsa Stain, the nucleus and cytoplasm of white blood cells take on characteristic blue or pink coloration. The use of purified eosin and thiazine dyes minimizes lot-to-lot variation.
