General description

This certified reference material (CRM) is produced and certified in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 17034. This CRM is traceable to primary material from an NMI, e.g. NIST or NMIJ. Certified content by quantitative NMR incl. uncertainty and expiry date are given on the certificate. Download your certificate at: http://www.sigma-aldrich.com

Ethirimol is the ethylamino isomer of dimethirimol that belongs to a group of pyrimidine fungicides. This systemic fungicide acts by inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis and is used as a seed treatment to control powdery mildew in spring barley and wheat. Ethirimol is not approved for use in European Union (EU) as per Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009. But a default maximum residue level (MRLs) from 0.01 mg/kg to 2 mg/kg is applied for products of plant and animal origin, according to Regulation (EU) 2021/1531.

Ethirimol has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.

Application

The certified reference material (CRM) is intended to be used as a calibrant for chromatography and other analytical techniques.
The Ethirimol CRM may also find following uses:
  • Simultaneous determination of the captan, captafol, carbendazim, chlorothalonil, ethirimol, folpet, metalaxyl, and vinclozolin from drinking, river, and estuarine water using solid-phase disk extraction followed by gas and liquid chromatography
  • Study the effects of commercial nonionic polyoxyethylene surfactants on the foliar penetration and movement of ethirimol and diclobutrazol from suspension formulations applied to wheat plants at different growth stages
  • Study the key ultrastructural responses of Erysiphe graminis in barley due to the effects of ethirimol and propiconazole fungicides
  • Development of QuEChERS-ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analysis method for residual determination of thiophanate-methyl, carbendazim, and ethirimol in strawberry
  • Study the effect of pressurized fluid extraction (PFE) on the recovery of bupirimate and its degradation product, ethirimol from a range of soil types
