selective and differential for Candida spp.

General description

BiGGY Agar (Nickerson Agar) is used for detection, selective isolation, differentiation and presumptive identification of Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis. This agar is a selective medium used for isolation and presumptive identification of Candida species by their ability to reduce sulphite to sulphide giving a brown to black colour.

Application

BiGGY Agar has been used to evaluate the production of hydrogen sulfide in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.[1][2]

Preparation Note

Suspend 45 g in 1 litre distilled water. Boil gently to dissolve the medium completely. DO NOT AUTOCLAVE. Overheating will destroy the selective properties. Disperse the flocculant precipitate formed by swirling prior to dispensing into plates.

Other Notes

We offer two media types: the superior granulated GranuCult® and the cost-efficient powdered NutriSelect® culture media, depending on your needs.
The designations basic, plus, or prime are added to indicate the quality control level, from basic quality control to standard QC plus to prime for full regulatory compliance.
