General description

Thioglycollate broth is a complex microbial growth medium that is widely used to support the growth of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms. Thioglycollate broth contains thioglycolic acid, a reducing agent, which creates an oxygen-depleted environment in the medium that promotes the growth of anaerobic bacteria. In addition, the medium contains resazurin, a redox indicator that changes color in response to oxygen levels. Thioglycollate broth is used for the cultivation of microaerophilic bacteria, which require partial oxygen and carbon dioxide levels for optimal growth. It can be used to test an organism’s oxygen requirement or its ability to grow in an anaerobic or microaerophilic environment. The broth can also be supplemented with other growth factors, such as vitamins or amino acids, to enhance the growth of fastidious bacteria.

Application

Thioglycollate broth is commonly used as a pre-enrichment medium for the recovery, growth, and identification of anaerobic bacteria from various environmental, and food and beverage samples. It can support the growth of a wide range of microorganisms

Features and Benefits

Our Granulated media are:
  • Safer - Significant reduction of inhalation of toxic and allergenic substances resulting in fewer allergic responses. Less contamination of working tools and environment
  • Accurate - No separation of components and no clumping, even under humid or warm conditions, ensure a uniform product with higher performance accuracy
  • Fast - Rapid and uniform dissolution in water
  • Easier - Easier handling and weighing due to the better flow properties. Media do not stick to the flask or container
  • Reliable - Homogenous distribution of ingredients guarantees high reproducibility even if only small amounts of media are used.
