Application

BIX has been used in cell viability assay.

Biochem/physiol Actions

BIX (BiP protein inducer X) induces the expression of the endoplasmic reticulum chaperone protein GRP78 (glucose regulated protein 78, BiP) leading to an attenuation of the unfolded protein response. BIX protects neuronal cells and retinal cells from ER-stress induced cell death.

Several intervention studies have demonstrated that exercise training has beneficial effects among cancer patients. However, older cancer patients are underrepresented in clinical trials, and only few exercise-based studies have focused specifically on older patients with cancer. In particular, research investigating the

To understand disease mechanisms, a large-scale analysis of human-yeast genetic interactions was performed. Of 1305 human disease genes assayed, 20 genes exhibited strong toxicity in yeast. Human-yeast genetic interactions were identified by en masse transformation of the human disease genes

Macrophage activation is a critical step in host responses during bacterial infections. Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), the rate-limiting enzyme in polyamine metabolism, has been well studied in epithelial cells and is known to have essential roles in many different cellular functions.

Ibrutinib is a Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitor with remarkable efficacy against B-cell cancers. Ibrutinib also increases the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF), which remains poorly understood. We performed electrophysiology studies on mice treated with ibrutinib to assess inducibility of AF.
