General description

Fast, efficient formation of uniform-sized, unilamellar liposomes. The principle is simple: a lipid emulsion is repeatedly extruded through a porous polycarbonate membrane, forced back and forth by specially modified gas-tight syringes attached to the membrane support capsule. With the syringes provided, unit has 0.5 mL capacity and virtually zero dead volume. Membranes from 100 to 400 nm pore size available.

Questions

  1. Hi : what else aside form the LiposoFast device is needed in terms of equipment , consumables etc.. to run a small yield . And also , what is the total yield final output ? Can be added a water-soluble plant extract for a liposomal-herbal preparation?

    1 answer
    1. This product is not tested for liposome generation from specific sources. The phospholipid sample should be dissolved in an organic solvent initially. The solvent should then be removed by rotary evaporation, such that a film remains. The film is then hydrated with an aqueous phase and resuspended by shaking or a mechanical shaker to produce multilamellar liposomes. This sample is then placed in the extruder. See the images below for component and placement information. In addition, a brief set-up video may be viewed in the following link:

    the filter breaks very easily

the filter breaks very easily when you are extruding, there is always a hole in the middle, even when extruding gently

      Thank you for your review!
LiposoFast membranes have a pore size in nanometers as opposed to micrometers. The syringe for the unit is custom fitted and is not interchangeable. In addition to these factors there is also the nature of the sample type to consider.
