Gene Information

Application

Kininogen, low molecular weight from human plasma has been used to study rMASP-1 (recombinant mannose-binding lectin-associated serine protease 1)-mediated cleavage of LK (low molecular weight kininogen). It has been used as a standard for protein identification in milk-proteomics study.

Biochem/physiol Actions

LMW kininogen is a major extracellular cysteine proteinase inhibitor. Tissue kallikrein releases bradykinin, a potent bronchoconstrictor and vasoactive agent, from both HMW and LMY kininogen.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a solution in sodium acetate and sodium chloride.

Bradykinin (BK), generated from high-molecular-weight kininogen (HK) is the major mediator of swelling attacks in hereditary angioedema (HAE), a disease associated with C1-inhibitor deficiency. Plasma kallikrein, activated by factor XIIa, is responsible for most of HK cleavage. However other proteases

Tissue kallikrein (KLK-1), a serine protease, initiates the release of bradykinin (BK)-related peptides from low-molecular weight kininogen. KLK-1 and the BK B2 receptor (B2R) mediate beneficial effects on the progression of type 2 diabetes and renal disease, but the precise
