Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to the third extracellular loop of human C-C chemokine receptor 1 (CCR-1), conjugated to KLH. The immunizing peptide has 80% homology with the rat gene and 85% homology with the mouse gene.

Biochem/physiol Actions

CCR1 is a seven transmembrane protein that binds to macrophage inflammatory protein 1 alpha (MIP-1 alpha), monocyte chemoattractant protein 3 (MCP-3) and myeloid progenitor inhibitory factor-1 (MPIF-1). It has important role in protecting the host from inflammatory responses, viruses and parasites.

The CC chemokines macrophage inflammatory protein-1alpha (MIP-1alpha) and RANTES (regulated on activation normal T cell expressed) have been implicated in rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. Since their effects are mediated through the CCR1 chemokine receptor, we set up a small
