General description

Aluminum nitrate nonahydrate is an aluminum salt that can be prepared by dissolving aluminum or aluminum hydroxide in dilute nitric acid. It is used in the preparation of insulating papers, transformer core laminates, and cathode-ray tube heating elements.

Application

Aluminum nitrate nonahydrate can be used as a catalyst to synthesize:
  • β-Amino carbonyl compounds via one-pot Mannich reaction.
  • Bis(indolyl)methanes via electrophilic substitution reaction of indoles with aromatic aldehydes.
  • 3,4-Dihydropyrimidinones via solvent-free Biginelli reaction.

Features and Benefits

  • Easily recoverable through simple phase separation
  • Reusable without a distinct loss of catalytic activity
