General description

08:0 PIP is a phosphoinositol phosphate (PIP). Among prokaryotes, PI is synthesized by mycobacteria and few other bacterial genera.
Inositol phospholipid species are membrane-bound signaling molecules that have been implicated in almost all aspects of cellular physiology, including cellular growth, metabolism, proliferation, and survival.

Application

08:0 PIP has been used to prepare multilamellar vesicle liposomes (MLV) for lipid binding assays. It is also suitable for use in the formation of protein-lipid tube and to examine fluorescence spectrum for analysing the PIP/sterol exchange properties of the Osh1 OSBP-related domain (ORD)

Biochem/physiol Actions

08:0 PIP can control ion channel activity. Phosphoinositol phosphates (PIPs) with short acyl chains, that are soluble in water can be used for reversible transport into the plasma membrane.

Macroautophagy (hereafter autophagy) is a degradative cellular pathway that protects eukaryotic cells from stress, starvation, and microbial infection. This process must be tightly controlled because too little or too much autophagy can be deleterious to cellular physiology. The phosphatidylinositol (PtdIns)
