Application

N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine-N,N′,N′-triacetic acid (HEDTA) can be used as an ionophore for the selective determination of Fe(III) ions by the potentiometric method. It is also used to form complexes with metal ions such as iron(II), copper (II), zinc(II), manganese(II), and uranium(VI) ions. Therefore, HEDTA plays an important role in the separation of f-elements and the treatment and disposal of nuclear waste.

Fluoride (F-) pollutants can harm plants and the animals feeding on them. However, it is largely unknown how complexing and chelating agents affect F bioavailability. Two studies were conducted that measured F- bioavailability and uptake by rice (Oryza sativa L.).

Aluminum, a known neurotoxic substance, has been suggested as a contributing factor in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Therapeutic efficacy of combined administration of citric acid (CA) and N-(2-hydroxyethyl) ethylenediaminetriacetic acid (HEDTA) was evaluated in decreasing blood and brain aluminum

The [Ru(II)(Hedta)NO(+)] complex is a diamagnetic species crystallizing in a distorted octahedral geometry, with the Ru-N(O) length 1.756(4) A and the RuNO angle 172.3(4) degrees . The complex contains one protonated carboxylate (pK(a)=2.7+/-0.1). The [Ru(II)(Hedta)NO(+)] complex undergoes a nitrosyl-centered one-electron

The complexation of Fe(II) with organic ligand results in the decrease of redox potential, and enhances the reduction ability of Fe(II). An important example is the use of Fe(II)-organic complexes to accelerate Cr(VI) reduction. Dissolved O(2) and light can potentially
