General description

Baicalein, a flavonoid, is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor.[1] Anti-inflammatory effects of baicalein in peripheral human leukocytes has been studied.[2]

Application

Baicalein was used in a study to investigate the in vitro quantitative inhibition of lipoxygenase.[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

The flavonoid component of Nepalese and Sino-Japanese crude drugs.[4][5] Baicalein, a major flavone of Scutellariae baicalensis, inhibits the 12-lipoxygenase (12-LOX) pathway of arachidonic acid metabolism, which inhibits cancer cell proliferation and induces apoptosis.

Paeoninol and paeonin C, oligostilbene and monoterpene galactoside, have been isolated from the methanolic extract of the fruits of Paeonia emodi. Their structures have been assigned on the basis of spectral analysis including 1D and 2D NMR techniques. In addition

Previous studies suggest baicalein, in addition to its antioxidant effects, protects against hypoxia/reoxygenation injury via its pro-oxidant properties. We hypothesize that a brief period of baicalein treatment prior to ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) may trigger preconditioning protection via a mitochondrial pro-oxidant mechanism.

Baicalein, one of the major flavonoids found in Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, displays neuroprotective effects on experimental models of Parkinson's disease (PD) in vitro and in vivo. Although the antioxidative and/or anti-inflammatory activity of baicalein likely contributes to these neuroprotective effects

Many flavonoids have been shown to present good results for the treatment of gastric ulcers. Baicalein, a bioactive flavonoid derived from the Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi root, possesses several biological effects, such as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. This study was conducted to

Questions

1–3 of 3 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. At what percentage of DMso baicalein and naringin will be dissolved?

    1 answer
    1. Baicalein and can be soluble in 20mg/ml DMSO. Naringin can be soluble in 10 mg/ml neat DMSO.
