Descripción general

Chlorophyll a is an important light-harvesting, green or blue color[1] pigment present in the photosynthetic membranes of the chloroplasts in plant cells.[2] It functions as an antenna pigment in photosystems I and II.[3]

Aplicación

A procedure has been described for harvesting native light-harvesting complex IIb (LHCIIb).
Chlorophyll a has been used:
  • to study the variation in carotenoids composition with changing colors and maturation in soybean seeds[4]
  • to examine the use of chlorophyll distribution maps obtained from hyperspectral imaging for the non-destructive diagnosis of Nitrogen deficiency[5]
  • as a standard to determine the concentration of the analyte by fluorescence spectrophotometric technique in the water sample collected from the yellow river[6]
  • as a standard to quantify the amount of chlorophyllous pigments gathered from algae by high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) technique[7]
  • in the identification of pheophytin a from environmentally friendly cultivated green peppers[8]
  • to sense different nitric oxide (NO) species[9]

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

Chlorophyll a binds to the protein molecules CP47 and CP43, forming the inner antenna of the reaction center of Photosystem II. In photosystem I, the binding sites of chlorophyll a includes the polypeptides spread across the membranes.[2] Scarcity in formation of chlorophyll and a low chlorophyll density can lead to deficiency of nitrogen in plants leaves.[5]

  1. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers.   2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. Is my ampule intact? How can I tell?

    1 answer
    1. If the meniscus "bubble" is not broken, then the ampule is intact and usable. To test the meniscus, use a glass Pasteur pipet and gently touch the bubble. If the glass pops and breaks, then the ampule was sealed. If it goes straight through to the bottom of the ampule with no resistance, then the seal was broken during transit.
