Biochem/physiol Actions

Biotin-HPDP (HPDP-Biotin) is a membrane-permeable and reversible biotinylating reagent that is used to biotinylate target proteins via covalent disulfide bond (-S-S-) formation with free sulfhydryl (-SH) groups. The biotin-tagged proteins can then be subjected to affinity labeling or isolation/purification using avidin conjugates or beads. Unlike tranditonal biotinylation methods, Biotin-HPDP tag can be removed with reducing agents such as dithiothreitol (DTT) without the need of harsh reagents to dissociate the high affinity interaction between avidin and biotin.
