General description

The immunoglobulin G (IgG) is a major class of immunoglobulin and is highly conserved. IgG constitutes to 10−20% of the plasma proteins. This class of immunoglobulins are glycoproteins containing 82−96% protein and the remaining, carbohydrate. It exists in four subclasses namely, IgG1, IgG2, IgG3, and IgG4. IgG is composed of four polypeptide chains containing two heavy and two light chains, linked by disulfide bonds.

Specificity

The antiserum is determined to be immunospecific for goat IgG.

Application

Anti-Goat IgG (whole molecule)-FITC antibody produced in rabbit has been used for immunocytochemistry of human oocytes and preimplantation embryos.
It has also been used in enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and confocal microscopy.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Deficiency of a particular IgG subclass, may increase the susceptibility towards certain pathogens.
IgG antibody subtype is the most abundant of serum immunoglobulins of the immune system. It is secreted by B cells and is found in blood and extracellular fluids and provides protection from infections caused by bacteria, fungi and viruses. Maternal IgG is transferred to fetus through the placenta that is vital for immune defense of the neonate against infections. The coupling of FITC to Anti- Goat IgG (whole molecule) antibody allows for the visualization of protein by fluorescent microscopy.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Storage and Stability

For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage, the solution may be frozen in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing, or storage in "frost-free" freezers, is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use.
