General description
Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a polyether compound with repeated ethylene glycol units[-(CH2CH2O)n].
Application
Poly(ethylene glycol) has been used as a liquid medium to prepare shear thickening fluid (STF) by directly mixing it with fumica silica.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a synthetic polymer and is used as an additive in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. It is also involved in biomedical applications like biosensing, imaging, and tissue engineering. PEG is used as a gold standard in bioconjugation and nanomedicine thereby increasing blood circulation time and improving drug efficacy. PEG-conjugated drugs are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). They are considered safe for use in humans. PEG reduces the liver uptake and repels protein adsorption, which makes it useful in nanocoating.
