Gene Information

General description

The gene Kcnh7 (potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily H member 7), also referred to as erg3, encodes a subunit of ether-à-go-go related (erg) K+ channels. The erg K+ channels are part of the EAG (ether-à-go-go) family of voltage-gated K+ channels. The encoded protein is found to be expressed in the apical membrane of the retinal pigment epithelium.

Specificity

The KV11.3 antibody is directed against an intracellular epitope of C-terminal part of KV11.3.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide CPEFLDLEKSKLKSKE corresponding to amino acids 1108-1123 of rat KV11.3.

Biochem/physiol Actions

The gene Kcnh7 (potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily H member 7) encodes a voltage gated K+ channel that modulates the membrane potential in its rested and activated state. In the nervous system, it may participate in the regulation of neuronal excitability. The erg3 channels have relatively negative activation threshold compared to erg1 and erg2. They are capable of recycling K+ ions to the subretinal space in the dark and contribute to the maintenance of the resting membrane potential.

Physical form

Lyophilized powder containing phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, 1% BSA and 0.025% sodium azide.

Reconstitution

Reconstitute the lyophilized vial with 50 μL or 200 μL deionized water, depending on package size. Further dilutions should be made using a carrier protein such as BSA (1-3%).

In response to light, most retinal neurons exhibit gradual changes in membrane potential. Therefore K+ channels that mediate threshold currents are well-suited for the fine-tuning of signal transduction. In the present study we demonstrate the expression of the different Kv11
