General description

L-Ascorbic acid 2-phosphate sesquimagnesium salt hydrate, also known as Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP), is a stable derivative of vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid). MAP is applied in various research domains, including emulsion-based experiments, biocatalytic dephosphorylation, cell differentiation, and tissue engineering. Its versatile utility extends to gene repression, transcriptional studies, and investigations related to growth factors. In cell biology, MAP demonstrates potential applications in inducing morphological changes in cultured cells, influencing cell death pathways.

Moreover, MAP plays a pivotal role in metabolomics and biochemical research. Acting as an antioxidant, it effectively scavenges free radicals, offering protection against oxidative damage. Its anti-inflammatory properties contribute to the reduction of inflammation, and studies have indicated its ability to stimulate collagen production. Additionally, MAP serves as a chelating agent, further expanding its applications in various research studies. The multifaceted nature of MAP makes it a valuable tool in scientific investigations, contributing to advancements in cell biology, metabolomics, and biochemical research.

Application

L-Ascorbic acid 2-phosphate sesquimagnesium salt hydrate has been used in mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) expansion medium to incubate scaffolds, in Dulbecco′s modified eagle medium (DMEM) for culturing human umbilical cord cells and mesenchymal stem cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

L-Ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AA2P) is used in biocatalytic dephosphorylation for electric power generation and electrochemical detection assays. L-Ascorbic acid 2-phosphate may be used in cell differentiation and tissue engineering applications. Asc-2P is used in studies of gene repression, such as the repression of dihydrotestosterone-induced dickkopf-1 expression.
