General description

Lugol iodine solution is an effective preservative for the marine bacteria.
Lugol solution is a disinfectant, which is used to detect starch in organic compounds. It is used in dental procedures, diagnosis of cervical cell alterations and Schiller´s test. Lugol solution is used in panendoscopic examination of squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus. It is used as a mordant in Gram staining.

Application

Lugol solution has been used as a staining component to detect starch in plants. It has also been used to saturate thyroid in biodistribution study.
