Application

Testosterone has been used as a substrate for UDP-glucuronyltransferase based drug metabolism assays using microsome-encapsulation techniques.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Androgens direct the development of the male phenotype during embryogenesis and at puberty. Testosterone is an androgen that is secreted by the testis. This hormone is converted to dihydrotestosterone in the target tissues where it appears to mediate several biological functions.

A new method for hydrolyzing steroid conjugates (both sulfates and glucuronides conjugates) that is efficient, effective, and inexpensive is described. This method comprises incubation of the conjugates--after salting-out into ethyl acetate or elution from a C18 cartridge--with anhydrous methanolic hydrogen

UPLC-ion mobility spectrometry separations combined with mass spectrometry (UPLC-IM-MS) and tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-IM-MS/MS) have been investigated for the simultaneous determination of testosterone and epitestosterone glucuronides in urine. The glucuronide epimers of testosterone and epitestosterone were separated by ion mobility

Testosterone and epitestosterone are endogenous steroids that differ in the configuration of the hydroxyl-bearing carbon at C-17. Testosterone is the predominant male sex hormone, whereas the role of epitestosterone is largely unclear. In humans, both androgens are excreted mainly as

Two molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) that we recently described to be class-selective for glucuronides have been successfully exploited for the molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MISPE) of testosterone glucuronide (TG) from its parent drug (T) in urine. Both sorbents targeted the

The interactions between UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) isozymes, UGT1s and UGT2B1, in rat hepatic microsomes were investigated using an immunopurification technique with anti-peptide antibodies and a chemical cross-linking strategy. A 50 kDa protein coimmunopurified with UGT1s was identified as UGT2B1 by amino-terminal
