General description

GHRH/GRH (growth hormone releasing hormone) is an endocrine peptide hormone composed of 44 amino acids† It exists in two forms in the hypothalamus, namely GRH(1-44)-NH2 and GRH(1-40)-OH. However, the full biological functionality of this hormone resides in the first 29 amino acids itself. GRH(1-29)-NH2 is a C-terminal shortened peptide produced from GHRH.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Amidated GRF fragment that is equipotent to GRF in releasing somatotropin from anterior pituitary.
GHRH/GRH (growth hormone releasing hormone) is released from the hypothalamus from where it reaches the anterior pituitary and binds to its receptor, thus, eventually leading to the release of GH (growth hormone) into the plasma.
