General description

Tergitol NP 9 is a versatile nonionic surfactant that finds applications in cell biology, biochemical, and formulation research. Its unique properties, arising from its hydrophilic and hydrophobic components, make it an effective wetting agent, emulsifier, dispersant, and detergent.

In protein research, Tergitol plays a crucial role in facilitating protein analysis and purification. Its detergent properties enable it to lyse cells, releasing soluble proteins, and solubilizing membrane proteins and lipids, making them accessible for further study. Additionally, it may also be employed in protein crystallization, preventing non-specific binding during affinity purification and immunoassay procedures, and serves as an additive in electrophoresis. Tergitol, extending beyond protein research, finds versatile applications in various industries, serving as a valuable component in formulation research due to its ability to emulsify, disperse, and solubilize, thereby enhancing the stability and homogeneity of different mixtures.

Surfactants, possessing both hydrophilic and hydrophobic components, fall into two main categories: ionic, which ionize in water (anionic, cationic, or ampholytic), and nonionic, which do not ionize. Tergitol NP 9 product is a nonionic surfactant with diverse applications such as emulsification, dispersion, solubilization, and detergent use.

Application

TERGITOL has been used in cytotoxicity assays to treat Vero cells for producing cytotoxic (100% dead) controls. It may be used in paper & textile processing, laundry, dust control, agrochemicals, metalworking fluids and paints & coatings.
Tergitol has been used in a study to assess a method to determine nickel using ultrasonic-assisted cloud point extraction. It has also been used in a study to investigate a method for the detection of Salmonella Enteritidis via an Enteritidis-specific real time PCR assay
