General description

Difluoro(4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-2-{1-[4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-3,5-dimethyl-2H-pyrrol-2-ylidene-N]ethyl}-3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrol-2-ylidene-N]ethyl}-3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrolato-N)boron (BODIPY) is a boron containing dipyrromethene dye that can be used as a laser dye which exhibits emission from green to red region of a spectrum. It has good electrochemical and spectroscopic properties and can be used for a variety of light sensing applications.

Application

BODIPY dye can be used as a laser dye and finds application in the bio-labeling of DNA, proteins and lipids. It may also be used in the fabrication of position sensitive devices(PSDs) such as machine tools and aligning systems. It has a lasing wavelength of <500nm and can potentially be utilized in the development of photo-initiator systems.
BODIPY laser dyes are used to generate fluorescent conjugates of proteins; nucleotides; oligonucleotides and dextrans; and to prepare fluorescent enzyme substrates; fatty acids; phospholipids; lipopolysaccharides; receptor ligands and polystyrene microspheres.
Also used for solid-state dye laser devices and organic solar cells.

Electrically tunable microcavities are essential elements for tunable laser sources indispensable for modern telecommunication and spectroscopy. However, most device concepts suffer from extensive lithography or etching for membrane processing. Here, we present an electrically and continuously tunable, multi-half-wavelength microcavity with
