General description

Adenosine deaminase that acts in RNA (ADAR) exists in two isoforms namely, ADAR1 and ADAR2, in mammals. Both the isoforms are expressed in variety of tissues but in general, the pre-mRNA being edited represents receptors of the central nervous systems. ADAR1 has several isoforms which include the full length ADAR1 (150 kDa) and two functionally active short isoforms (80 and 110 kDa).

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to an internal s of human ADAR1, conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence is identical in mouse, rat, bovine, pig and monkey.

Application

Anti-ADAR1 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in
  • immunoblotting
  • immunoprecipitation
  • immunofluorescence

Biochem/physiol Actions

Adenosine deaminase that acts in RNA 1 (ADAR1) play an important role in A-to-I RNA editing. In addition, it is also implicated in differentiating cells of embryo and adult tissues, facilitating cell survival and permitting their further differentiation and maturation. Its role in embryonic development is specifically observed within the hematopoietic lineage as well as in adult hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs). ADAR1 plays a key role in hematopoietic stem cell maintenance. It also block interferon signaling, that might help organisms to fight against the harmful effects of interferon activation linked with various diseases, such as chronic inflammation, autoimmune disorders and cancer.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Previously we have reported that metastatic melanoma cell lines and tumor specimens have reduced expression of ADAR1 and consequently are impaired in their ability to perform A-to-I microRNA (miRNA) editing. The effects of A-to-I miRNAs editing on melanoma growth and
