General description

Dulbecco′s Modified Eagle′s Medium (DMEM) is a modification of Basal Medium Eagle (BME) that contains a higher concentration of amino acids, vitamins, and additional supplementary components. The original DMEM formula, first reported for culturing embryonic mouse cells, contained 1,000 mg/L of glucose. An alteration with 4,500 mg/L glucose is optimal in cultivating certain cell types. This modification has been shown to improve the stability of the medium.

Application

Dulbecco′s Modified Eagle′s Medium - low glucose has been used to culture:

  • human osteosarcoma cells and HeLa cells
  • primary human mesenchymal stromal cells (hBMSCs)
  • human embryonic kidney cell lines

Supplement with 0.584 g/L glutamine.

The regulation and functional roles of secreted coding and long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs; >200 nt) are largely unknown. We previously showed that mutant KRAS colorectal cancer (CRC) cells release extracellular vesicles (EVs) containing distinct proteomes, microRNAs (miRNAs), and circular RNAs.
