General description
Metaflumizone is a voltage-dependent sodium channel blocker insecticide that targets the nervous system of the insects, causing flaccid paralysis and eventual death. This semicarbazone compound effectively controls most lepidopterous pests and certain pests in the orders Coleoptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera, Isoptera, and Siphonaptera in cotton, tuberous vegetables, brassicas, leafy, and fruiting vegetables. Metaflumizone provides long-lasting control of fleas on animals with a single spot-on application.
According to Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 (repealing Directive 91/414/EEC) metaflumizone is approved for use in European Union (EU). A maximum residue limit (MRL) for metaflumizone (sum of E- and Z- isomers) is set according to Reg. (EU) No 318/2014 from 0.05 mg/kg to 10 mg/kg for plants-based products and 0.02 mg/kg to 0.1 mg/kg for products derived from animals.
Metaflumizone has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.
Application
- Elucidate the biochemical mechanisms, cross-resistance, and stability of resistance in a laboratory-selected strain of Plutella xylostella towards metaflumizone insecticide
- Determine the degradation kinetics of metaflumizone under the influence of varying moisture, pH, light, temperature, atmospheric CO2 levels, soil type, and soil sterilization
- Determine the efficacy of spot-on formulation containing metaflumizone plus amitraz against demodectic mange mites in naturally infested dogs
- Develop and validate a method for determination of metaflumizone residues in cabbage tissues and soil samples using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI/MS/MS)
- Extract metaflumizone and seven other surface and drinking water micropollutants using carbon xerogels combined with nanotubes as solid-phase extraction sorbent, followed by UHPLC-MS/MS analysis
