Gene Information

General description

Somatotropin or growth hormone is a peptide hormone that is secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. It is essential for growth. The hormone increases muscle mass, reduces fat mass, helps in maintaining normal blood glucose levels and also promotes a balanced lipid profile.

Application

Somatotropin or growth hormone has been used to study the molecular interactions of ephrin type-A receptor 4 precursor (EphA4) with the growth hormone receptor. It has also been used to induce differentiation in mammary epithelial cell line HC11.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Increases mass of most tissues by increasing cell number rather than cell size, mobilizes fat stores.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in TBS (20 mM Tris, 0.15 M NaCl, pH 8.5) containing 50 μg of BSA per 1 μg of cytokine.

Reconstitution

It is recommended that sterile PBS containing at least 0.1% human serum albumin or bovine serum albumin be added to the vial to prepare a stock solution of no less than 10 μg/mL.
