General description

Phosphatidylglycerol (PG), an anionic phospholipid is a predominant component of the cell membrane. It is localized in the thylakoid membrane of chloroplast in plants. PG is synthesized by phosphatidic acid in E. coli.

Application

12:0-13:0 PG has been used to study the lipid′s interaction with the membrane protein of interest.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylglycerol contributes to photosynthetic activity by maintaining the structural photosynthetic apparatus. It is useful for the biosynthesis of cardiolipin.
