General description

Digalactosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG) is vital for photosynthesis.
Monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG) and digalactosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG) are the two nonionic lipid constituents of the thylakoid membrane of higher plant chloroplasts. MGDG and DGDG are present in the membrane at 56% and 29%, respectively, of the total lipid content. DGDG is a bilayer-forming lipid, while MGDG alone will only form hexagonal-II structures.

Application

Digalactosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG) has been used in hydrophilic interaction LC-ion mobility-MS (HILIC-IM-MS) for untargeted lipidomics.

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and their receptor (RAGE) system evoke inflammatory reactions and insulin resistance in adipocytes. Spa-derived green alga Mucidosphaerium sp. Galactolipids are the main structural component of plant chloroplastic (thylakoid) membranes and of blue-green algae cell membranes. The predominant lipids in this class are monogalactosyl-diacylglycerol (MGDG) and digalactosyl-diacylglycerol (DGDG). We here present a method for the preparation of bicelles that
