General description

Rotational absorption spectrum for the ground state of trichlorofluoromethane (Freon-11) has been measured on the part per thousand levels by volume by time-resolved THz spectroscopy. Reductive dehalogenation of trichlorofluoromethane catalyzed by Methanobacterium barkeri has been reported.

Biological reductive dehalogenation reactions are important in environmental detoxification of organohalides. Only scarce information is available on the enzymology underlying these reactions.
