General description
Interferon-γ Inducible Protein (IP-10), also known as CXCL-10, is a cytokine that belongs to the CXC chemokine family. It is secreted in response to interferon-γ by neutrophils, monocytes, basophils, epithelial cells and keratinocytes. IP-10 is involved in chemotaxis, apoptosis, angiostasis and inhibits cell growth. The effects of IP-10 are mediated by its receptor, CXCR3. The major signalling pathways that are activated by IP-10 are those of MAPK, PKA, JNK, NF-κB and PI3K/Akt. Alteration of IP-10 levels has been observed in various infectious diseases caused bacteria, fungi and viruses such as dengue, Ebola and hepatitis B

The current state-of-the-art tests for infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis - the IFN-γ release assays - rely on accurate measurement of the cytokine IFN-γ. Many other potential biomarkers are expressed in concert with IFN-γ, and IP-10 in particular has shown promising
