Gene Information

human ... IP6K2(51447)

General description

IP6K2 (inositol hexakisphosphate kinase 2) gene is mapped to human chromosome 3p21.31. This region undergoes allelic loss in several cancers.

Immunogen

Inositol hexakisphosphate kinase 2 recombinant protein epitope signature tag (PrEST)

Application

All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry.

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. These images and the collection of this vast data set can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. We also provide Prestige Antibodies® protocols and other useful information.

Biochem/physiol Actions

IP6K2 (inositol hexakisphosphate kinase 2) gene encodes a proapoptotic protein kinase that catalyzes the production of diphosphoinositol pentakisphosphate (IP7) from inositol hexakisphosphate (IP6). It also catalyzes the conversion of 1,3,4,5,6-pentakisphosphate (InsP5) to PP-InsP4. It facilitates the apoptosis of cancer cells by sensitizing them to cell stressors and anticancer drugs, which depend on the catalytic activity of this protein. It functions in the formation of inositol pyrophosphates, NF-κβ signaling, and cisplatin-mediated cell death. A 12-amino acid sequence in IP6K2 with Arg-133 and Arg-136 associates with the C-terminal region of a heat-shock protein, HSP90, and regulates apoptosis.

Features and Benefits

Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section.

Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
  • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues.
  • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments.

Inositol (1,4,5) trisphosphate (Ins(1,4,5)P(3)) is a well-known messenger molecule that releases calcium from intracellular stores. Homologues with up to six phosphates have been characterized and recently, homologues with seven or eight phosphate groups, including pyrophosphates, have been identified. These homologues

The inositol hexakisphosphate kinase (IP6K) 1 and 2 genes are localized at 3p21.31, a highly altered gene-dense chromosomal region in cancer. The IP6Ks convert IP6 to IP7, which inhibits activation of the tumor-promoting PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. IP6K2 has been suggested
