General description

Zeatin is a coconut milk-derived plant hormone and is a common plant cytokinin that is found in the developing or meristematic tissues and organs such as roots, shoot apex, immature organs, and others. Its structure includes the amino group of adenine being linked with the hydroxylated isoprene residue in the trans-position.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Zeatin promotes the growth of lateral buds and stimulates cell division (lateral dominance), callus initiation, and seed germination. Zeatin is used with Murashige and Skoog and other media. Zeatin promotes multiple shoot generation from internodes and high-frequency thick-spread roots.

Growth monitoring indicated that the height of 'Kanshu' plants with 'Nantong-xiaofangshi' as an interstock was significantly shorter than that of 'Kanshu' plants with no interstock. A transcriptome analysis of the two graft combinations ('Kanshu'/Diospyros lotus and 'Kanshu'/'Nantong-xiaofangshi'/Diospyros lotus) was conducted
