General description

Tween® 80 is a non-ionic detergent and surfactant, classified as an ester of sorbitan and oleic acid. It is a versatile compound commonly employed in various biological applications, including cell lysis, nuclei isolation, and cell fractionation. Additionally, Tween® 80 finds use in stabilizing proteins and facilitating protein membrane studies. Its effectiveness stems from its membership in the polysorbate group, characterized by the combination of sorbitol and sorbitane oleic esters with polyethylene glycol chains. These structural features contribute to Tween® 80′s emulsifying capabilities and a broad range of applications.

Application

Non-ionic detergent used for selective protein extraction and isolation of nuclei from mammalian cell lines.
TWEEN® 80 has been used in drug vehicle solution for specific injections in mice and rats. It has been used for the determination of esterase activity in bacterial cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

TWEEN® 80 is a polysorbate surfactant which helps in stabilizing proteins and in protein membrane studies. It is regularly used for the extraction of membrane proteins and isolation of nuclei from cells.

Features and Benefits
