General description

m-FC Broth with Rosolic Acid is used for the detection and enumeration of fecal coliforms in water and other liquid samples by membrane filtration technique. This medium is based on the property that fecal coliforms grow at 44-45°C. Enzymatic digestion of animal tissue provides nitrogen, carbon, and minerals in M-FC Broth with Rosolic Acid. Yeast Extract is a source of vitamins and trace elements. Sodium Chloride maintains the osmotic balance. Lactose serves as a carbohydrate source. Bile Salts inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria. Rosolic Acid is the differential indicator system. Coliforms form blue colonies, whereas non-coliforms form gray-colored colonies.

Application

m-FC Broth with Rosolic Acid is suitable for testing waste and effluent waters for fecal coliforms.

Features and Benefits

  • Ready-to-use Liquid ampoule media solve numerous problems in microbiology laboratories where time, equipment, and trained personnel are often in short supply.
  • They are available in convenient, single-test 2 mL plastic ampoules, eliminating the manipulation of glass ampoules and avoiding the waste and spoilage associated with bulk packaged media.

Specifications

Incubation Time: 24 hrs ± 2
Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater

Analysis Note

Fecal coliforms appear blue, other colonies appear gray to cream colored. In some rare cases, a membrane may have confirmed fecal coliforms that are pink in color. This may be due to insufficient medium on the petri pad, excess moisture loss from Petri dish during incubation, or delayed observation of the colonies.
QC organisms
E. coli (ATCC 25922)

Mixed culture (E. coli, P. aeruginosa and P. vulgaris)
