Biochem/physiol Actions
Neuromedin U-23 (Neuromedin U), a neuropeptide, is endogenous agonist of neuromedin-U receptor 1 (EC50 = 0.17 nM) and neuromedin-U receptor 2 (EC50 = 1.4 nM) that regulates blood pressure, ion transport in the gut, mesenteric blood flow and adrenocortical function. Neuromedin U-23 decreases body weight and food intake and increases core body temperature in mice when administered at a dose of 36 µg/animal. It appears that neuromedin U regulates epithelial cell differentiation and barrier immunity through interaction with neuromedin-U receptor 1 present at small intestine eosinophils.
