General description

Dansylhydrazine (DNSH) is a fluorescent reagent which is commonly utilized for derivatization of carbonyl compounds.

Application

Suitable for LC-MS derivatization.
DNSH has been used for the analytical derivatization of malondialdehyde prior to its determination in human plasma by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS).
It may be used as a derivatization agent for thujone prior to its determination in white Italian vermouth samples by reversed phase LC with fluorescence detection combined with tandem MS and as a fluorescent label for the quantification of neuroactive steroids, alphaxalone and pregnanolone in plasma by isocratic reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC).

Liquid chromatography/electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC/ESI-MS/MS) is one of the most prominent analytical techniques owing to its inherent selectivity and sensitivity. In LC/ESI-MS/MS, chemical derivatization is often used to enhance the detection sensitivity. Derivatization improves the chromatographic separation, and
