OXSM (β-ketoacyl-ACP synthase) localizes in the mitochondria. OXSM transcripts are strongly expressed in the heart and skeletal muscle, liver and kidney. However, it is also present in the placenta, brain, spleen and lung.

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

OXSM (β-ketoacyl-ACP synthase) is an important enzyme of the mitochondrial fatty acid synthesis II (mtFAS II) pathway. It is required for the chain-elongating reaction in the fatty acid synthesis.
