General description

ALG13 is an endoplasmic reticulum localized UDP-GlcNAc transferase. Structurally, it consists of a catalytic domain, but lacks any membrane-spanning domains.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

UDP-N-acetylglucosamine transferase subunit ALG13 homolog (also known as asparagine-linked glycosylation 13 homolog) is an enzyme encoded by the ALG13 gene in humans. Mutation in this gene (involved in protein N-glycosylation) causes non-syndromic forms X-linked intellectual disability (NSXLID). Overexpression of this gene leads to its cytosolic partitioning and reduction of Alg14 levels. Alg14 gene is essential and sufficient for the ER localization of Alg13.
