Descripción general

Research area: Cell signaling
Uricase is present in many organisms, such as, archaea, bacteria, and eukaryotes. The Gut microbiome is the major source of uricase, a homotetrameric enzyme containing four identical 34 kDa subunits.

Aplicación

Uricase may be used for the determination of uric acid in biological fluids. It may be helpful in the spectrophotometric determination of purines and purine nucleosides.

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

Uricase catalyzes the oxidation of uric acid to 5-hydroxyisourate, which subsequently forms (S)-allantoin. It is involved in purine metabolism, urate degradation and (S)-allantoin formation [1]The absence of functional uricase in humans has significant physiological and pathophysiological implications. It has been associated with higher serum uric acid levels, leading to an increased risk of conditions related to uric acid crystallization, such as gout. Uricase has emerged as an important therapeutic target for the treatment of conditions related to hyperuricemia, such as gout.

Definición de unidad

1 U corresponds to the amount of enzyme which oxidizes 1 μmole uric acid at pH 9.1 and 37 °C.

Uric acid is the final product of purine metabolism and is converted to allantoin in most mammals via the uricase enzyme. The accumulation of loss of function mutations in the uricase gene rendered hominoids (apes and humans) to have higher

Questions

  1. Does this enzyme fluoresce under any wavelengths?

    1 answer
    1. This product has not been tested for fluorescence, and there is no historical data to suggest that this material will autofluoresce. This enzyme is used in combination with other reagents in the determination of uric acid. Please see the link below to review a publication that may be of interest:
