General description

Las carrageninas son mucopolisacáridos de las paredes celulares de las algas rojas. Son polímeros lineales aniónicos compuestos de 1,3α-1,4β-galactanos que tienen uno (κ-), dos (ι-) o tres (λ-) sulfatos por unidad de disacárido. En disoluciones iónicas, los κ- y ι-carrageninas se autoasocian en estructuras helicoidales que forman geles rígidos o flexibles, respectivamente. λLos λ-carrageninas no forman hélices y no son gelificantes. Las carrageninas se utilizan comercialmente como espesantes y estabilizantes.

Application

Las carrageninas se utilizan para suprimir la respuesta inmunitaria in vivo e in vitro mediante mecanismos que se cree que implican un efecto citopático selectivo en macrófagos. La λ-carragenina no gelificante se utiliza para inducir inflamación y dolor inflamatorio en la pata trasera de roedores o en modelos de la bolsa de aire. Más recientemente se ha inyectado carragenina directamente en las articulaciones de roedores para establecer un modelo de inflamación y dolor artrítico.

  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature.   3. Can you give me information about the molecular weight of lambda carrageenan?

    1. The molecular weight is not determined for this product. However, the literature states that the molecular weight for lambda Carrageenan is 446 kDa (number average) and 990 kDa (weight average) by ICP-AES (inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry.
