General description

Cellulase includes endo-β-1,4 glucanase, cellobiohydrolase, and β-D-glucosidase. It is commonly produced by bacteria and fungi.

Application

CELLULYSIN® Cellulase, Trichoderma viride has been used:
  • to digest transgenic BY-2 cells exposed to paraformaldehyde fixation
  • in the enzyme mix used for in situ hybridization to plant chromosomes
  • in the enzyme solution for the transformation of Phytophthora species
  • to isolate intact cells and protoplasts from plant tissues

Biochem/physiol Actions

Cellulase is useful in food, feed, textile, leather, detergent, and paper industries. It is also applied in fiber modification, biomass fermentation, and pharmaceutical industries.

Warning

Toxicity: Harmful (C)

Unit Definition

One unit is a measure of decomposing activity using a filter paper substrate at 40°C, pH 4.0.

Reconstitution

Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C) for long term storage or refrigerate (4°C) for short term storage. Stock solutions are stable for up to 3 days at 4°C or for up to 1 month at -20°C.

Phytophthora, a genus of oomycetes, contains many devastating plant pathogens, which cause substantial economic losses worldwide. Recently, CRISPR/Cas9-based genome editing tool was introduced into Phytophthora to delineate the functionality of individual genes. Arabidopsis High Mobility Group Box (HMBG) proteins were previously found associated with the interphase chromatin but not the metaphase chromosome. However, these studies are usually based on immunolocalization analysis involving paraformaldehyde fixation. Paraformaldehyde fixation has been widely adapted to preserved
