Ceramides containing 2-hydroxy fatty acids (hFA) are mainly found in the epidermis.[1] 24:1(2R-OH) Ceramide is a 2R hydroxylated nervonic acid-containing sphingolipid.[2]

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

Hydroxy fatty acid (hFA)-sphingolipids play a vital role in cell signaling,[3] cell differentiation and apoptosis.[2] These lipids also aid in formation and function of myelin.[4] hFA-ceramide is produced by NAD(P)H-dependent enzyme, fatty acid 2-hydroxylase (FA2H).[5] hFA-ceramides help in epidermal permeability barrier function.[3]
