General description

05:0 PC is a saturated fatty acid.[1] Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is a strong bilayer-forming lipid. It the most common phospholipid in mammalian membranes.[2] It is also an important component of the mucosal layer of the colon.[3]

The list of Phosphatidylcholine products offered by Avanti is designed to provide compounds having a variety of physical properties. Products available include short chain (C3-C8 are water soluble and hygroscopic), saturated, multi-unsaturated and mixed acid PC′s. All of the products are purified by HPLC, and special precautions are taken to protect the products for oxidization and hydrolysis.

Application

05:0 PC is suitable for use to study about the behaviour of its proton bound homo- and heterooligomers by ESI-MS/MS.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

05:0 PC is sensitive to the electrospray ionization (ESI) conditions.[1] Phosphatidylcholine (PC) functions as a surfactant within the mucus to form a hydrophobic surface to inhibit bacterial penetrance.[3] It is used to treat fat embolism. Phosphatidylcholine lowers the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.[4]
