General description

7α,27-dihydroxycholesterol (7α,27-di-OHC) is synthesized by the hydroxylation of 27-hydroxycholesterol (27-OHC).[1] It is an oxysterol with side chains oxidized[2] and is a structural isomer of 7α,25-dihydroxycholesterol.[1] 7α,27-dihydroxycholesterol-d6 is a deuterated derivative of 7α,27-di-OHC.

Application

7α,27-dihydroxycholesterol-d6 has been used as a deuterated internal standard in liquid chromatography electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometric (LC/ESI-MS/MS) for human plasma oxysterol analysis.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

7α,27-dihydroxycholesterol (7α,27-di-OHC) is a ligand for Epstein-Barr virus-induced gene 2 (EBI2).[1] 7α27-di-OHC is implicated in neurological disease, Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome, obesity metabolic syndrome and diabetes by lipidomics analysis of human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples.[3] The levels of 7α,27-di-OHC decreases in lipopolysaccharide activation.[2]
