Aplicación

Fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) is extensively used as a film-forming electrolyte additive in lithium-ion batteries, where it facilitates the formation of a stable, lithium fluoride (LiF)-rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI); which is insoluble in the electrolyte; in turn increasing the cycling efficiecny and discharge capacity retention of the secondary battery. Experiments concluded that use of fluorinated solvents or other performance additives such as FEC in the electrolyte can improve the low temperature performance, oxidation resistance, flame retardancy and wettability of the electrode. In another experiment, it has been found that the freestanding Si-carbon nanotubes (CNTs) composite paper anodes for Li-ion batteries achieve higher specific capacity and better capacity retention in terms of long-term cycling when FEC (10 wt%) is used as an additive.[1][2][3]
